🚐 Relax with comfortable transport and expert local guidance throughout your day.
Your journey begins with a scenic ferry ride from Auckland (or a pickup from your Waiheke accommodation) before heading to the island’s eastern end — home to one of New Zealand’s most fascinating historical sites.
Discover the hidden fortress of Stony Batter, guided by archaeologist Tim Moon, who brings to life the extraordinary history of this WWII Coastal Defence site.
Built in 1942 under strict secrecy, the complex includes 1.2 kilometres of hand-carved tunnels, chambers, and stairwells, designed to endure direct bombardment. The structure remains a remarkable feat of wartime engineering, offering a rare glimpse into the island’s past.
(Please wear suitable walking shoes — a 20-minute scenic walk across farmland and along coastal ridges leads to the fort.)
After your underground adventure, relax at Batch Winery — perched high on Waiheke’s hills, offering sweeping views of the Hauraki Gulf.
Enjoy a wine tasting followed by a shared platter lunch, surrounded by the island’s stunning vineyard landscapes.
Prefer something by the sea? You may choose Man O’ War Vineyard, a beautiful coastal estate renowned for its wines and relaxed atmosphere. (Please note: extra wines during lunch and takeaway bottles are at your own cost.)
In the afternoon, visit Casita Miro, an elegant Mediterranean-inspired vineyard known for its artful wines and vibrant ambience. Alternatively, you can opt to spend this time exploring Oneroa Village, browsing boutique shops and local art galleries.
Finally, your guide will return you to the Matiatia ferry terminal for your journey back to Auckland, or to your Waiheke accommodation for a relaxing evening on the island.
